When you think of Smoffee's what do you think of? What is a smoffee anyways? We promise it isn’t one of those imaginary animals that you were tricked into looking for at summer camp. The name Smoffee's first came about by combining our two favorite drinks: Smoothies and Coffee, but has come to mean Shawn and Mary's Coffee; combining the first letter of each of our names with the word coffee.
About Smoffees: For us, Smoffee's is more than just a restaurant... it is a destination. It's a place where people connect with friends, listen to music, work on their laptop and have meetings. Smoffee’s operates as a breakfast and lunch café for the downtown area, and is known for our fresh homemade pastries, real fruit smoothies, tasty deserts, and home-style lunch items. We also host after hour events and offer the rental of our facility as a medium sized venue.
Who are we: The owners are Shawn and Mary Larson.
Shawn Larson has spent the last eight years working in the coffee equipment business selling equipment to new and existing business all over the US. Through CafeProducts.com Shawn has also served as a consultant to coffee shop startup businesses, and has a successful custom table top manufacturing business.
When Starbucks started closing stores and the recession, the business dipped, Shawn supplemented his income by spending nearly the last year working at the Comfort Inn as a night auditor.
In the past he has worked in the retail and food industry. He also ran his family business and helped to open and run a café in Denver where he brought talent to play at the cafe.
Mary Larson is a native of Colby. She went to elementary and high school here, and was on the dance team for the Colby High Eagles. She worked in the food industry in town and was a manager in training in Pittsburg, Kansas for a movie theater. She is an amazing craftsman, who has been able to take a complicated design concept and make this place something special. Most of all she is a beautiful wife, and loving mother of four.
Our Team: We have a staff of paid and volunteer workers that have a rich background in the food industry. Donna Schmidtberger does most of our baking and adds a special flavor to this restaurant. She has been in the food industry for over 40 years. David Whips, who has been a regional trainer for Burger King, and as a technical consultant helps us in a variety of ways including filling in for Shawn and Mary when they are out of town. We have also received help from George Awemiller, Leah Cox and Morgan Smull to name a few.
Other Information: We hope to be active and a mainstay in the community by providing live entertainment, host social and community events and give back financially. We hope to eventually offer delivery service to downtown businesses and organizations. Please come in and help us be a success story in this community. |
